Picture this: It’s a beautiful sunny day. You’re enjoying the weather in your happy place – maybe that’s your backyard, the beach, or the patio of your favorite restaurant – and letting the sun shine down on your skin. When you get home, you’ve got an undeniable glow. While scientists haven’t figured out how to bottle the “summer glow,” with a few tweaks to your wellness routine, you can beautify from the inside out and get that sunny day feeling all year long.

Protect yourself. Your mother has probably drilled this into your brain for years, but it’s true: wearing sunscreen is the most important thing you can do to protect your skin from broad-spectrum UV rays, which can cause fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, sunburns, and potentially, skin cancer. Apply sunscreen each and every day, even if it’s not sunny out or you’re sitting inside. Make daily application easy by choosing an AM moisturizer with at least SPF 30 and apply sunscreen to any exposed areas about 30 minutes before you go outside. If you’re planning on spending the day at the pool or the beach, reapply every two hours – even if you’re using a waterproof formula! And remember, sunscreen is for every day, even in the winter.

Drink up! Stay hydrated as the temperatures rise, especially if you live in a hot climate or exercise outdoors. At minimum, experts recommend consuming 64 oz. of water per day. If drinking plain water isn’t your thing, try adding lemon or mint or sipping from a reusable cup with a straw. Keep a refillable bottle at your desk during the workday and set reminders to hydrate after each meeting. Eating summery foods like watermelon, celery, and cucumber is another way to up your hydration, so snack on these delicious fruits and veggies all season long.

Break a sweat. Getting in some heart-pounding cardio increases blood flow, giving you a gorgeous healthy glow. Go for a bike ride with a friend, take a jog around the park, or do laps in the pool to enjoy the endorphins and the fabulous flush.

Get your zzzs. Did you know that while you sleep, your skin is working hard to restore itself? While it’s tempting to stay up all night looking for shooting stars, night swimming, or sitting by the bonfire, try to get your recommended eight hours of shut-eye to give your skin ample opportunity to do its thing.

Add some shimmer. There’s a reason bronzer and highlighter exist! Use a big fluffy brush to add a sun-kissed glow to your cheekbones, temples, and jaw, and add a little shimmer with highlighter.
